    1. The nicest thing I can say about this book is that it was a fast read Not quite sure why I picked it up The protagonist, whose name I ve already forgotten, is a 19 year old summering on the Cape with his family His father s best friend and his much younger spoiler alert second wife also summer on the Cape Of course the husband spends the weekdays working in Boston, leaving his lovely wife alone down the Cape Protagonist and second wife realize they love one another and have a brief affair before [...]

    2. This book was so lame The best thing about it was the cover photo Once again, I was lured in by great cover art that disguised a sucky read It s called the Gin and Chowder Club but the group of adults who host these gatherings are rarely mentioned in this book I expected to learn about Samuel and Nate in this book through their weekly get togethers Instead, we get one gathering at the beginning of the summer and one at the end That s it I also would have liked details about the chowder What pa [...]

    3. The Short of It Looking at this gorgeous cover you might dismiss it as pure chick lit, but let me tell you this one is different With a male protagonist, a Cape Cod setting, and the tight bond between two families, this one is a winner. The Rest of It The Coleman and Shepherd families have known each other for quite some time Each year, they head to Cape Cod where they are neighbors for the summer Samuel and Sarah Coleman have been busy raising their two sons, Asa and Issac, whereas Nate Shepherd [...]

    4. I won this one And I was so excited, but was so disappointed I would call this Christian fiction Way too many Bible passages, prayer and the story focusing on a family that was very religious AND they are quite the lushes, with drinking a strong thread throughout the entire story And on top of that a high school senior having a summer affair with a married woman The cover of the book drew me in and the location was also a summer draw I am not religious and I don t drink I just thought everything [...]

    5. I didn t realize until I started reading this book that I have read it before That s ok because I enjoyed it just as much the second time as I did the first I ve read a couple of Nan Rossiter s books and I enjoyed them as well.

    9. This book is not what I expected it to be I liked it, but it just wasn t what I expected Anyway, well written, but the sometimes just a paragraph long chapters were a bit irritating I understand why the author did it, but I still think it could have been written in a bit reader friendly, with less breaks Anyway, the characters are well written, and the story is good now, I don t condone adulteryor a relationship between a young adult and his aunt in lawbut the story works Anyway, interesting, l [...]

    10. Impulse buy because of the title gin and chowder , setting Cape Cod , and cover art, in that order I knew nothing about the author, so I was pleased with how readable it was Good level of suspense about how an affair would affect the two individuals involved and their families, which had been close for generations Believable descriptions of how they felt about the affair and no excess detail about the intimate times they were together.Written in 2011, but set in the early 1960s, which for some r [...]

    11. Not sure what I thought Should be 2.5 rating for me I read the book because it was about Cape Cod which I dearly love but the book wasn t what I thought it would be Perhaps that is why I couldn t relate to it It was well written in how the author wrote but I just didn t care for the premise or story of the book Great title and a good sounding chowder recipe at the end.

    12. I wanted to love this book because it had the premise of everything I like in a story, a good setting, family dynamics, an issue to resolvebut the characters fell flat for me and the storyline was so predictable I didn t find it interesting.

    13. I enjoyed reading this novel set by the sea A bit coming of age novel mixed with a roller coaster of emotions that come from your first love I found the plot a bit predictable at first with a few surprises toward the end.

    14. A family friendship between two old families but things get complicated when Samuel and Sarah s son becomes infatuated with Nate s wife Noelle who happens to be much younger than Nate Asa is getting ready to go off to college but gets into an affair with Noelle before he leaves.

    15. A Gripping Tale Hotter Than the Chowder The friendship between the Colemans and the Shepherds span many years and countless summers as neighbors on Cape Cod Samuel Coleman and Nate Shepherd continued the businesses of their Father and Grandfather Coleman and Son Fine Woodworking and Shepherd s Accounting Firm Samuel had also kept up the weekend ritual of The Gin and Chowder Club Everyone looked forward to their warm hospitality, the friendly gathering and Sam s signature Clam Chowder and Gin and [...]

    16. I was totally drawn to The Gin Chowder Club for several reasons, first the gorgeous cover art, second the name and third is the review I read by Ti at Book Chatter which totally sold me on this book There are many reasons to tell you why I loved The Gin Chowder Club It includes the total package for me on what is a good book.r art, title, solid story that sweeps me away to the setting, engaging characters, foodI swear, I could smell the chowder simmering and the salt air on the beach of Cape Co [...]

    17. I love to read stories from authors where the characters are developed over several books When I find an author I really love, I will read practically every book they have ever written I think I have found my next new author to follow in Nan RossiterEarlier this year, I read a short story from Ms Rossiter, Christmas on Capecod Here I was introduced to Asa Coleman, his son Noah and Maddie, his best friend When I finished, I secretly yearned to read about the Coleman family, but never spoke the w [...]

    18. Admittedly, I was drawn in by pleasing cover art and the title while vacationing in Maine and browsing the Walmart clearance rack for quick reads And I m not opposed to light, fluffy, mindless summer reading, so I didn t read the summary very carefully But even by those standards yuck This is the first book in decades that I did not read from cover to cover and just started skimming about a quarter of the way into it First, the relationship using that term very lightly between the two protagonis [...]

    19. Type Commuter Read format lends easily to starting stopping Rating I m Lovin It Very entertaining Why You re Reading It You love Cape Cod You re looking for an original story You want a page turner that you can escape into. What I Thought The Gin Chowder Club is a complex and original story that is an incredibly quick read Nan Rossiter is a master of description and has a gift for making the reader feel as if they are in the story I am eager to get across the country for a better look at Cape Cod [...]

    20. I wonder if when an author is writing they notice the number of times their characters do something repeatedly, or if it is not until later, when someone is reading that it is mentioned how many times Joe was drinking coffee or the number of times that Mary was going to the store or in this case the number of times people were taking shower It seemed like every few pages chapters there was either someone heading up to take a shower, or were coming out of the shower, or in the process of taking a [...]

    21. My review of this book is double edged First, what I enjoyed about it.The Gin and Chowder Club began with what a summer read should be With beautiful descriptions of the Cape, the ocean, good food and strong family relationships I settled down to enjoy a relaxing, idyllic story. Now, I ve read books with affairs in them While I have moral objections to the subject matter I expected to be able to handle it thinking that, typical of this type of literature, a lesson would be learned.Be careful ther [...]

    22. 2.5 stars Kensington publishes one of my favorite authors T Greenwood so I was thrilled to get a copy of this book Plus gin and chowder and Cape Cod what s not to like Somehow I missed the short one paragraph or so prologue and it took me until almost the end of the book to realize this was set in 1961 When the characters see Ted Williams play baseball in person I knew something was up I m not sure when I would ve figured it out if I wasn t a baseball fan Anyway, looking back there were a few cl [...]

    23. When I first saw this book I thought it would be a nice summer read a light chick lit type of book And I was right about it being a light read, however it bordered toward the Christian lit genre than chick lit I wasn t expecting to read a book peppered with religion throughout, which is pretty much what I got Now, I m not one to read Christian lit normally, so I ll admit that my opinion about this book may be skewed nonetheless, here goes. This is a book about infidelity and the ways in which it [...]

    24. Don t judge a book by its cover That s what I did here What a cozy cover with the boots, the beautiful Hydrangea, the white wainscoating, the fun title Yeah, it s deceptive to what lies within Granted, I did read the back of the book and decided to buy it based on the description But, I ve got to say, even that s a little deceptive The book is called The Gin and Chowder Club the Club is mentioned in the book description soooo, I expected for this little boozy club to meet than twice in the wh [...]
