    1. This was a delightful easy read all about my favorite world capital Detailing obscure ghosts, gardens, and green spaces as well as myriad of other tales about London and it locales, buildings and hidden spaces. This is just a delight.

    2. Really good book, was sending me off to google and every few pages to find out about certain topics Got slightly hung up with certain topics, such as the private clubs, and the rather selective list of political scandals towards the end and throughout the book his politics leak out not so subtly Overall a great book though, one i will be dipping back into to.

    3. Couldn t relate to understand the references the book was talking about and was quite a difficult read as I would have to search up something every other page and found myself continuously zoning out Knew I had to drop it or else I d be stuck in my reading slump again.

    4. Interesting historical facts, but wasn t what I was looking for right now I had hoped it would give me ideas for places to visit in London, but this is of facts about people and things that mostly don t exist any and there isn t much to see there if it mentions a place.

    5. Review originally posted on Tsundokuholic.OverviewI majored in history because I found history interesting Okay, maybe not all history, but I like learning how people lived hundreds to thousands of years ago Those of you who aren t history buffs might think, What possible interest could I have in people who died a long time ago We tend to think of history in terms of dates and names we attach vague meaning to History is so interesting when you dig below the dusty covers and expose the dirty, sca [...]

    6. Most of snippets of information in the book were along the lines of huh, interesting , rather than wow I must know I feel like if the book had fewer chapters, which were in depth it would ve been beneficial The chapter about the Livery Companies I would happily have read 10 times , whilst the one on Royals were really rather dull Somewhat interesting, and uneven, but readable enough.

    7. Much of this has been written before, some of it in David Long s other fascinating books If you have not read any of his other works this is a tour of London s strangest and most intriguing locations written in Long s witty and engaging style Ranging from architectural evidence of past incidents and stories of life beneath the city, to anecdotes of magic, mystery and murder, this is a perfect companion for the curious Londoner.

    8. It advertises itself as a gift book, but it s one that is packed with a great deal of information It treads the line between trivia fascinating research, and while it occasionally dives into the former, there is still much to enjoy in this volume It s not a barn burning, cover to cover read, but it is both useful and enjoyable.

    9. There were lots of interesting nuggets in this book but I felt the overall tone was quite weird The stories were all clipped so short it was hard to really get into any of the details, and there was a bit a right wing lean that meant lots of interesting stories were missed out or glossed over.

    10. A very informative, yet captivating book that shows of the hidden side of London than that which is typically explored Perhaps some knowledge of London required before reading if you want the fullest experience, but even those without would still thoroughly enjoy the quirkiness of the book.

    11. i didn t like it as much as i thought i would the little illustrations and the cover were pretty cute and the author did some really good research, but some of the historical facts were just plain boring.

    12. This book is really fun, especially if you like history, trivia, and tour guides It s not terribly long, but it took a while to finish because I had to stop to tell someone about an interesting fact every couple pages.

    13. Wonderful, fun book filled with little oddities about my favourite city.A lot of it I knew, but it was worth it for the new facts I learnt, and the second mention of the Phantom Chicken of Pond Square, Highgate in two weeks Highly recommended.

    14. I think that bizarre might be a bit of a stretch for many of the stories in this book Merely interesting could suffice But it was an entertaining, short little book with some cute illustrations and it made me long to revisit London.

    15. A lovely quick read with lots of not so common knowledge facts about London A good one to load onto your phone and browse while wandering the streets although equally entertaining for the armchair traveller.

    16. Lovely little book full of interesting facts, divided into different subjects It s given me lots of ideas for places to visit that I hadn t been aware of.

    17. I had a whale of a time with this A breezy read, packed with facts about my beloved capital Recommended.

    18. Packed full of interesting facts and features about one of my favorite cities Made me want to plan my next trip Although, really, anything about London makes me want to plan my next trip.
