1 thought on “The Counterfeit Husband: Signet Regency Romance (InterMix)

    1. This is quite an unusual regency, H is not a duke, earl or some army officer, he is sailor in disguise working for the h as footman Now, One would wonder how a widow of an Earl falls in love with a common servant Well , that s the part this book becomes interesting, for our H is not a common servant, he claims to be the most inaudible and invisible among her servants and proves to be exactly the opposite I would have given it 3 stars, But Thomas is beyond fabulous and I fell in love with him inst [...]

    2. Synopsis Camilla, the widow of an earl, is under the thumb of her domineering sister in law To escape, she moves to London where she finds it necessary to fabricate a husband to fool her late husband s family To play the part of her husband is her unorthodox footman, an escaped press gang victim. My two cents I loved this story from the first sentence The story opens with our hero and his best friend, a fellow shipmate They are set upon by a press gang, which was a rather unpleasant feature of th [...]

    3. A lovely old regency Thomas is a sailor, a mate on a merchant ship When he escapes illegal impressment into the Royal Navy, he hides as a footman in Camilla s house He is an intelligent, funny, kind and gentle man His character is wonderfully written Camilla is a woman who has been under the thumb of her deceased husband and his martinet sister for 12 years She escapes to set up a household in London and gradually learns to stand up for herself and her loved ones She has a 10 year old daughter P [...]

    4. Have you ever been in a conversation with someone and wished they d just get to the point That s how I felt while reading this book I kept waiting for the story to really begin If you ve read the synopsis, then you know that Camilla has one of her servants, Thomas, pretend to be her husband We re well over halfway through the book before this finally happens And then it s over before it really even begins I think my expectations were just a little too high and while the story is pleasant, it end [...]

    5. surprisingly good I keep searching for regency historical authors on par with Georgette Heyer, and this is one who can share her shelf.

    6. What a romp I thought this the most unlikely plot of any romance novel but it was a delight The characters are witty and charming and the eventual capitulation of Ethelyn is a wonderful moment Thomas is awesome.

    7. Camilla a widowed woman and mother has a hard time standing up to her sister in law When her sister in law threatens to fire the one servant who helps keep her home happy she realizes she msut make a stand She and her daughter Pippa move out Even after being out of her her in laws home although technically it is her daughter s home her overbearing sister in law is still trying to call the shots Camilla is horrified when her sister in law is trying to play matchmaker Knowing she is too weak to st [...]

    8. Surprisingly, i like this book I was really expecting to give up on it after 20 pages or so, but it was cute Sure, some parts are kind of cheesy, but it wasn t too bad.I thought the character development was good Ethelyn would probably have been not so mysteriously murdered if she were my sister in lawBut, yeah Not bad at all.

    9. Most of this book earns 2.5 3 stars It is middle of the road average The thing that won me over was the characters Two were especially fun Thomas the counterfeit husband of the title and ten year old Pippa This is a sweet traditional regency romance tandem a quick read I had a used copy on my shelf for quite a while and I just got around to reading it.

    10. The story has some nice aspects to it, but the whole premise is very shaky and unconvincing the heroine asks her footman to pretend he is her husband and the final rapprochement with the dreadful sister in law was also too much of an about face to be believable.

    11. I really disliked the oppressive element of Camilla s in laws and the sense of impending disaster it quite cut up all my peace in reading However, it was somewhat mitigated by Thomas humor and obvious lack of self effacement, and by 10 year old Pippa s precociousness.

    12. Thought this one was a little different than usual romance Characters were good, though did find heroine a little wishy washy.

    13. This was awesome His mouth and attitude was just hilarious at times some parts were cringe worthy because of secondhand embarrassment, but it was mostly alright at the end.
