    1. This is a standard overview of early United States foreign relations Unlike similar volumes in this series particularly Robert Beisner s survey of late 19th century U.S foreign policy , it offers no interpretive scheme for analyzing the topics and has little discussion of historiographical issues Not particularly engaging but generally easy to read, despite the author s unimaginative and dry approach to the subject.
